Google Mail's Logo
I'm so predictable...

Every morning I wake up, grab my laptop, sit down on the toilet, and while the cat purrs besides me, check my email before I even speak to the wife (not that I'm proud of that, but this is pretty much my schedule... think about where I could possibly be right now - Hi Sylvain).

This morning the whole thing changed, suddenly... I'm getting news with my email (like milk with your coffee - unbelievable), and the cat is purring more loudly than usual.

Basically, our friends at GMail launched today what they call Web Clips, or, in other words, their integration with RSS. You can read more about them on Jared's post on the Google Blog.

Althought there are already some negative comments out there (Dave, if you think Google sucks, why do you use GMail?), I personally think they're pretty nifty.

To correct what David said in his post, also, with Web Clips you can easily disable the entire sharade no problem (just go to your settings menu), add and remove any feed you want (it comes pre-configured with feeds from big US content providers, I just added BBC and Planet Apache) and it supports ATOM no problem (I've just imported my own blog's ATOM feed, and have no problem whatsoever).

GMail is becoming day after day more like a full-fledged email client, and it's interesting to see how it's kind-of showing the way in which normal "traditional" desktop applications are finall moving onto the web platform...
